AVAS, or vehicle acoustic alert system, is a safety device designed specifically for electric vehicles. Its main function is to emit a warning sound when driving at low speeds to alert the owner and pedestrians to the presence of the vehicle. When electric vehicles are traveling at low speeds, their external noise is much lower than that of traditional internal combustion engine vehicles, which makes it difficult for pedestrians, cyclists, and especially those with impaired vision to detect the approach of the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of traffic accidents. In response to this problem, many authoritative organizations around the world, such as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the United States, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, have conducted in-depth research and reached a consensus that pure electric vehicles should be equipped with AVAS systems when driving at low speeds.
